Celebrating 18 years of creativityNovember 2020
Momkai's all grown up now 🎉
November 22 was a cold Friday, back in 2002. I was just 20, my hair was spiky and my smile was big. Because that day we officially registered Momkai as a design studio at the Chamber of Commerce.
Fast forward to 2020, we joyfully celebrate our 18th birthday! And I’m glad to share that business is booming. It's the best quarter we have ever recorded, thanks to our clients on three continents.
I tip my hat to my Momkai team members for doing such an awesome job while working remotely. Now that’s memberful design.
Delighted to welcome ADYEN and ELLA
As our projects are often the birth of a new company we carefully keep these under the radar. A recent new client that I can share is Adyen. This online payment platform serves businesses worldwide, including Spotify, LinkedIn and eBay with their members in the hundreds of millions.
We’re excited to welcome ELLA Global Community as a client to our design studio this month too. Together, we’ll be working on defining memberful safe spaces for the LBTQI+ community 🏳️🌈
Two design awards and Joca wins Best Talent 2020! 🏆
Our UX designer with Brazilian roots, Joca van der Horst, was named Best Talent of 2020 by the Dutch Interactive Awards. Working with him every day, we feel this is a well-deserved honour for such a kind soul.
As a team we won two golden DIA design awards, including one in the Communities category — for Fondo, a memberful training app for the Royal Dutch Cycling Union (KNWU), created with Today Tomorrow.
Talking about memberful design at Dutch Design Week
During this year’s all-virtual Dutch Design Week, we were invited to join a panel of leading digital designers to share ideas about the future of digital and its contribution to different aspects of life. I zoomed in on the impact of the memberful design vision for communities. Many thanks to my panelists for an insightful conversation.
400,000 copies sold and audience award winner 🏆
Rutger Bregman's book 'De Meeste Mensen Deugen' has won the NS Publieksprijs. We regard this award the most meaningful, because it's 150,000 readers who choose the winner. And this happened in the week the book reached the milestone of 400,000 sold copies. For reference, a book is often regarded a best seller when it goes beyond 25,000 copies.
As Momkai we help to do our bit, by designing every De Correspondent book since the start. We are working on N°18 as we speak!
Verwondering with Are We Europe
Mick ter Reehorst, Founder
In our design podcast Verwondering we dive into the world of Are We Europe, the first magazine for European ideas. The continent is a rich patchwork of cultures and identities — now they unearth the stories. A conversation about members and memberful design. The show streams on Spotify and iTunes.
