De Correspondent is now the 3rd largest membership journalism platform in the world
A new ranking compiled by Press Gazette reveals the newsrooms that count the most members. To our amazement, we learned that De Correspondent is globally now the third largest membership journalism platform — after The Guardian and Die Zeit.
Designing this brand and growing the platform has been such a great ride since 2013. We’re grateful to anyone who supports the mission, first and foremost the members. The lessons we learned together with New York University are the foundation of our memberful design approach at Momkai.

In Momkai's 19th year, we have designed our 19th book cover for De Correspondent
Every year, De Correspondent publishes a financial report. In 2020, the turnover was € 8.6 million. The result before tax was € 1.6 million. Of the total revenue, 99% comes from members and book readers. 52% is made up of memberships, 47% comes from books becoming bestsellers.
We are happy and proud of this, because the journalism platform wants to owe its right to exist to readers. This makes it possible to be ad-free. Next to the platform and branding, the Momkai team designs the book covers. Last month, our 19th book hit the stores: by Dick Wittenberg – who was also the author of the very 1st article ever published there.
